Semana Santa - Sicily - Easter processions - 2005

The photo book A Posto tells the story of the Holy Week before Easter, which has been celebrated on Sicily since the 17th century. Always with the same passion and devout conviction. In this series I give an impression of the processions in Buseto, Marsala and Trapani. In the Trapani procession twenty wooden sculptures are carried through the town for 24 hours at a stretch. The slow swaying of the floats on the cadence of the music bands, the realization that this tradition has lasted for hundreds of years and the merging of old faith and modern times, all this turns this procession into an emotional experience. This dramatic event is calm and restrained.
